If you are a lecturer and want to host an exam online, then ICT can help you. We have a range of tools and systems available to create an exam environment on College owned computers and laptops. This includes locking down computers so that 天美传媒 can only access certain websites and applications.
These tools include:
ICT E-exam is a system that secures a device so that 天美传媒 can only get access to certain applications and websites. E-exam works at three different levels according to your requirements. These are:
- E-exam mode – 天美传媒 will be able to access local software, the Software Hub and the ICT Print Service only.
- Word only exam – this mode only allows access to Microsoft Word, and the ICT Print Service.
- Blackboard exam – this mode only allows access to 天美传媒 Blackboard, local software, the Software Hub and ICT Print Service.
If you choose to set up an exam using ICT E-exam you will be given individual exam accounts for 天美传媒 to use and access to an exam H:drive.
Requirements
ICT E-exams will work on College managed Windows computers and laptops.
Faronics Insight is a system that allows you to control access to certain websites and applications. You can also lock down USB drives and CD drives. This tool is most suitable for online examinations or if you are hosting Blackboard externally and would like to run a Blackboard exam.
- You can pre-create your exam profile ahead of time
- You will be given exam accounts for student use
- Exam submissions are done online
Please note that Faronics does not deny access to shared drives and personal H: drives.
Faronics can also be applied outside of an exam environment to help keep 天美传媒 engaged and focused by restricting access to certain applications and websites during teaching.
In order to use Faronics you must first be given access to the Faronics teacher console. From here you can control and monitor the computers in the room. Access to Faronics teacher console will either be granted by your department or from ICT.
Requirements
Faronics Insight will work on College managed Windows and Apple Mac computers and laptops
ICT own a small number of laptops that are configured for exam use. The laptops are locked down so 天美传媒 cannot access the internet, USB sticks and other restricted materials or sites.
These laptops are mainly configured to only allow access to Microsoft Word and are used for 天美传媒 who require an electronic device to complete an exam paper.

Booking an exam
If you require one of our e-assessment tools for an exam, then you must book this with ICT well in advance of the exam date. Booking in advance or during timetabling will give you the best chance of securing your preferred date, time and computer cluster room.
You will need to book computer cluster rooms to cover not only the duration of the exam, but at least one hour before and after the exam to allow time for setup and exam close.
The computer cluster room that you book must be suitable for use and have at least a 10% excess of machines in case of failure.
