Funding聽your PhD
We offer a fully-funded Doctoral programme at the Business School. This includes a full tuition fee waiver (Home/EU or Overseas fees) plus a living stipend for up to five years through the Business School Graduate Teaching Assistant Scholarship. Funding for a sixth year can be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the potential to undertake a teaching or research assistant 天美传媒hip with one of the Business School's research centres.
Some of our scholarship funding comes from EPSRC and ESRC for candidates who meet Research Councils UK鈥檚 academic and residential eligibility conditions. During the MRes you will have a discussion with our team to find out whether you are eligible to move onto any of these awards.
Imperial President鈥檚 PhD Scholarship
During the one or two year MRes, there is the opportunity to apply for the prestigious聽Imperial President鈥檚 PhD Scholarship聽which offers additional funding such as a consumables fund of 拢2,000 per annum.

Visiting PhD Scholarship for Black Heritage Students
This scholarship aims to improve access and opportunity for Black heritage, Black Caribbean, and Black African 天美传媒 at Imperial Business School through the visiting PhD student route. It aims to provide financial support to outstanding 天美传媒 and helps to remove potential barriers to studying at Imperial and working with our faculty.
PhD-level 天美传媒 will normally study with Imperial Business School for an initial period of three months, and will not be awarded a degree nor credits by Imperial.
Funding will be provided to finance the applicant's travel costs, visa application fees, and accommodation (to be confirmed pre-application).
Additional support
The Business School offers 天美传媒 financial support to help enable聽them to present their work at international conferences or attend specialist external training that is relevant to their thesis work.

Frequently asked questions
We offer a fully funded Doctoral programme at Imperial Business School 鈥 this includes a tuition fee waiver and a stipend for up to five years. The 2025-26 rate of the Graduate Teaching Assistant scholarship stipend is 拢29,000. Rates are reviewed annually and are expected to increase for 2026-27 in line with Research Council UK rates. Stipends are tax-free and the continuation of the stipend will depend on your satisfactory progress on the programme.
Living costs vary considerably depending on the area of London you choose to live in and your choice of accommodation.

Eligibility
The scheme is open to both Home and Overseas 天美传媒聽currently enrolled on a PhD programme at another institution聽who identify as:
- Black British
- Black Caribbean
- Black African
- Mixed heritage 鈥 Black and other background
- Other Black background
Applications will be assessed on merit and academic trajectory as well as current access to grants/bursaries.
How to apply
You are encouraged to familiarise yourself with our聽academic areas聽and contact a potential supervisor before submitting a formal application. You must also agree on a study plan with your potential supervisor before applying.
You will then contact our Programme Director聽Nikki Hann, who will support you with submitting a formal application through the 天美传媒 admissions system. Formal admissions decisions can only be made after the application has been processed by the College Registry and the Business School.聽There is no application deadline for 天美传媒 wishing to commence a study period at other times, although 天美传媒 are encouraged to apply at least 4 to 6 months in advance of a proposed start date especially if they require a visa to enter the UK to undertake their study period.

Support provision
We aim to provide visiting PhD 天美传媒 with a well-rounded student experience when they join us. You will be supported by your supervisor and an independent mentor from the Business School. We also provide a range of support networks for Black heritage 天美传媒 across the Business School and the wider Imperial including:
- Imperial As One: the Race Equality Network for staff and postgraduate 天美传媒. They act as an advisory group helping to set priorities and advising the College on how to support and promote an inclusive workplace and culture of respect, opportunity, unity, transparency, and equality.
- 罢丑别听聽welcomes people of any and every background;聽open to anyone of African, or Caribbean heritage, or interested in celebrating African and Caribbean culture.
- As part of聽, Imperial BE supports Black entrepreneurship, Black Enterprise, and Black excellence through panel events, workshops, and masterclasses.

No, although in your application you should list a member of聽faculty聽you have identified as a potential supervisor. You can demonstrate in your statement of purpose how your research interests are aligned to a potential supervisor and the Business School.
Checking the research profiles of faculty members and Business School projects will give you an indication of whether the Business School is a good fit for you. If no faculty are working in your area of interest it is unlikely that you would be shortlisted, as we may not be able to provide supervisory support during your PhD.
During the MRes year, you will become part of the research community at Imperial Business School and interact with faculty and other PhD 天美传媒 during taught courses and at seminars, which we hope will influence and help shape your research ideas for the PhD.
Not all applications progress to the interview stage of the selection process, however we interview all shortlisted candidates before making an offer. In the case of overseas candidates we will arrange an interview by telephone or via Skype.
We have a large variety of clubs, societies, and networks throughout the Business School and 天美传媒.
