Level 3 of the Faculty Building will soon be home to the new South Kensington Professional Services Hub.

The project to make a permanent Professional Services Hub on Level 3 of the Faculty Building is on pause until spring 2027.

We have made this decision so that our colleagues can have the best space to work in whilst level 4 of the Sherfield Building is refitted for the Chaplaincy Multi-Faith Centre and Islamic prayer rooms. This renovated space, which must be ready by the start of the autumn term, will join other key student-facing services at the heart of our historic South Kensington campus, significantly enhancing the student experience as our community continues to grow.

As a consequence of this tight timeline, three of the teams currently based on Level 4 of the Sherfield Building have temporarily moved to level 3 of the Faculty Building: the ICT Service Desk, the Safety Directorate, and the Lifelong Learning department.

What you need to know about the temporary South Kensington Hub

Workspaces

What desk/level to work from

Many teams have designated areas to work from; if your team is based out of the White City Professional Services Hub and does not have allocated desks, you can book a hot desk. Hot desks are also available if your team's designated area is fully booked.

Check the floorplan when you book a desk on or see a PDF of the floorplan here: Temporary South Kensington Hub

Booking a desk

If you want to work from the Temporary South Kensington Hub on either level 1 or level 3 of the Faculty Building, you need to book a desk on . This includes working from a hot desk. On OfficeSpace you can filter by features including 'sit stand desks' (i.e. heigh adjustable desks).

Meeting rooms and pods

Meeting rooms and pods are shared resources designed to support the way we work.

On level 1 there are two meeting rooms and five pods. On level 3 there are five meeting rooms and two pods. These can all be booked through Outlook.

Breakout spaces

There are breakout spaces on both levels which are suitable for conversations, brainstorming and informal catch ups.

The breakout space on level 3 is also a great place to eat your lunch.

NB there are no microwaves in the Faculty Building, but if you want to heat up food here's where you can find one:

Building Level Room number
Sherfield 5 503
Sherfield 5 517
City and Guilds 1 145
City and Guilds 2 202A
Bessemer 2 218
Storage

Lockers

Everyone based in the Faculty Building has access to a personal locker, and these are allocated when you move in.

Team storage

We have worked with each individual team to understand and meet your team storage requirements.

Etiquette

We know that not everyone has had experience working in a shared workspace before, so we're sharing some guidelines building on what has worked well at the White City Professional Services Hub. First and foremost we ask everyone to have consideration for their colleagues, whether that's thinking about noise levels, or using shared resources like meeting rooms and pods.

Permanent South Kensington Hub

The project to develop a permanent South Kensington Professional Services Hub on level 3 of the Faculty Building will re-commence in spring 2027.

In the longer term, level 1 of the Faculty Building will become the new home of the Enterprise Lab.

Our long term plan for Professional Services workspace in South Kensington

In 2025, we successfully created the White City Professional Services Hub and two temporary South Kensington Professional Services Hubs on Level 1 of the Faculty Building and Level 4 of the Sherfield Building. Now we're starting to plan a permanent South Kensington Hub for Professional Services Hub who work on our historic campus.

The South Kensington Hub will be based on Level 3 of the Faculty Building. This space will be updated to receive a fresh new look, and to reflect changing ways of working. These improvements will be made ready for teams to move in spring 2027.

The new 100-desk workspace will contain high quality collaboration, breakout and meeting spaces to enhance the experience of our staff. In partnership with Service Leads, we will design an environment which supports a range of working styles and patterns, and empowers our teams to deliver world-class professional services. The South Kensington Hub will reflect Imperial's new standard for modern, flexible and vibrant workspaces, which enhance collaboration, connection and communication across our teams.

As this project moves forward, we will update this page with more information. This will include drawings of the new workspace, information about team moves, and details about the new floorplan.
