Inventions built based on evidence in science and engineering – also known as deep tech – are critical for economic growth and for solving major challenges in health, climate, technological disruption and security. However, they often involve long development timelines, high technical risk and significant early-stage capital requirements, which can lead to slow progress and challenges in attracting sustained investment.
The Institute for Deep Tech Entrepreneurship was created to address this gap, allowing discovery science to achieve commercial success and deliver real-world impact. The Institute supports discoveries from the lab to move to the market by reducing structural barriers to translation, unlocking investment capital and strengthening investor capability.
The role of philanthropy
The Institute is improving understanding on how to reduce frictions faced by science-backed ventures, supporting talent development and improving connection between innovators, capital providers, industry professionals and policymakers.
Philanthropic support expands the scope and depth of the Institute’s work. It underpins academic leadership and fellowships in deep tech entrepreneurship and supports initiatives that backs research teams at critical stages of commercial development. Philanthropy allows ambitious science to maximise its potential and deliver lasting societal and economic benefit.
