CRUK Convergence Science Centre logo

The CRUK Convergence Science Centre is a partnership between 天美传媒 and The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). We aim to bring together researchers from different disciplines across both institutions to develop innovative ways to address challenges in cancer research to benefit patients.听

This seminar series brings together speakers from Imperial and ICR to present their research and听how they use convergence science to answer cancer-related questions.

This session will explore advances in precision medicine and targeted cancer biology relevant to paediatric cancers.

Drugging the spliceosome with molecular glue degraders of RBM39 in cancer

RNA splicing is an essential step in gene expression that is frequently dysregulated in cancer, creating a therapeutic vulnerability that remains largely untapped in the clinic. The splicing factor RBM39 has emerged as a particularly attractive target, as it can be selectively depleted by aryl sulfonamide molecular glue degraders, which redirect the CRL4-DCAF15 ubiquitin ligase to ubiquitinate and degrade RBM39. Loss of RBM39 produces widespread aberrant splicing, disrupting transcripts essential for tumour cell survival. I will share recent work from my group on the sensitivity of MYCN-driven tumours to RBM39 degradation, and on how interference with RNA splicing disrupts DNA damage repair and modulates the immune system. I will also discuss how we use these insights to rationally design combinatorial approaches to improve treatment responses.

The Stratified Medicine Paediatrics Precision Medicine Programme for children with cancer

Stratified Medicine Paediatrics (SMPaeds) is a national precision medicine programme for children with cancer aiming to develop and validate biomarker assays in the research setting then transfer them into the NHS. I will discuss what we learned from SMPaeds1 and how that has informed the design of the SMPaeds2 clinical trial which is currently recruiting.
