Biography
Professor Harald Ehrhardt is professor for neonatology and director of the Department of Neonatology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany. Since more than two decades, he is dedicated to the care of preterm infants and improvements of their outcomes.
After completing the medical studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, he completed his residency and specialization in neonatology in Munich. After his move to the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, he headed the neonatology unit between 2012 and 2022 before taking over the divisional lead for neonatology and pediatric intensive care medicine at University Medical Center Ulm in 2022 to 2026. Prof. Ehrhardt is an expert and advisor in several national and international research consortia, expert commissions and quality assurance bodies including the Pulmonary Research Consortium of the European Society for Pediatric Research.
Prof. Ehrhardt has a strong translational research background combining basic and clinical research with particular focus on the immature lung and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Besides providing novel insights into the pathogenesis and potential treatments of bronchopulmonary dysplasia, his research team is strongly engaged in the epidemiology and prognostication of the acute and longer-term morbidities following preterm birth. He has a long-lasting interest in the respiratory management of preterm infants and how to better support their spontaneous respiration and to keep them more stable on non-invasive ventilation.
