Through our Partnership with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), ERG have deliverd the UK's first policy application of CMAQ-Urban, an extension to the US EPA model able to predict highly detailed air pollution and population exposure across the UK.

This is the first time the model has been used to inform UK policy, incorporating important new techniques to help understand air pollution and health impacts from major sources inlcuding roads, heating, industry, aviation, shipping and European emissions.

CMAQ-Urban will support the UK's international air quality commitments, including the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution and the Gothenburg Protocol. It enables testing of climate and health co-benefits from decarbonsiation and air quality measures, such as using heat pumps in the home, industrial transition, transport electrification and alternative fuels for aviation and shipping.
