Timesheets must be completed by Directly Incurred (DI) staff who are part-charged to a Research Council award i.e. they split their time across more than one award or funding source during the month. DI staff typically include:

  • Research staff (researchers, clinical research fellows, research nurses)
  • Fellows
  • Project-specific non-research staff (e.g. technicians, clerical roles)

DI staff who work 100% of their time on a single Research Council award do not need to complete timesheets or any other form of time recording.

Time for Principal Investigators and Co鈥慖nvestigators is classified by the Research Councils as Directly Allocated (DA). DA staff do not need to complete timesheets.

Further information on these roles and the definitions of DI and DA cost categories is available on the Research Support and Compliance Division’s costings webpage: Costing | Research and Innovation | Imperial
