Some UK Government departments may require timesheets or effort declarations for staff working on their awards. This is determined on a case鈥慴y鈥慶ase basis and depends on the specific scheme and its terms and conditions. Departments where this may apply include: 

  • Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) 
  • Department for Business and Trade (DBT) 
  • the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) 
  • the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) 

Prior to 2023, several of the above listed departments formed part of the former Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

 

What you should do 

Because requirements vary across UK Government schemes, you must review the terms and conditions in your award letter to determine whether: 

  • timesheets,
  • effort declarations, or
  • any other form of time documentation 

are required.
