Deputy Rector visits alumni in Shanghai for a special Centenary reception - Thursday 29 March 2007

Imperial College Centenary Event held on March 29 in Shanghai Radisson New World Hotel.

Deputy Rector of Imperial College Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Deputy Principal Professor Griffiths, Director of Executive MBA Programme Mr Ebrahim Mohamed, Deputy Consul General of British Consulate-General Shanghai Mr Philip Mani, Head of Science and Innovation Section Dr Julia Knights, Consul of Culture and Education Mr Jeff Streeter, Executive Director of The British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai Mr Ian Crawford as well as the alumnus have happily joined together to celebrate Imperial College's Centenary.

Imperial College has conducted a series of activities to fondly recall, carrying forward the college's glorious culture, history and the remarkable academic contribution for her Centenary Celebration. Alumni involved in it on a worldwide scale. Compared with the Imperial College's centenary history, Imperial College Shanghai Alumni Association just passed her first birthday. The purpose of alumni association is to get closer with alumnus across different industries, strengthen the relationship with alumnus and the alma mater, provide a platform for communicating and studying, as well as promote education, economic and cultural exchange between UK and China. Alumnus are willing also to believe, in order to achieve the same goal, we all will create a glorious future by following the tradition and pursuing the perfection.

Deputy Rector of Imperial College Sir Leszek Borysiewicz came to attend the Centenary Event in Shanghai, and delivered a speech especially. He reviewed college's centenary history, cherished the memory of founders, and presented the recent brilliant achievement. Sir Leszek Borysiewicz also pointed out that various countries share information, and the multi-national culture blends under globalization. Furthermore the university is the key ground for inheriting and communicating of human civilization. International education is a stage for exchanging culture and education, promoting knowledge, developing friendship. He hopes more and more Chinese 天美传媒 will study in UK, and becomes the bridge between UK and China.

天美传媒, who was established in 1907, is an independent constituent part of the University of London who holds own academic, management and the financial right. Shortly after its establishment, 天美传媒 made a mark in the word of academic by becoming the world's top university with the help of the royal connections, revolutionary research and abundant funds. The college has produced 18 Nobel Prize Winners until now.
