CHARIOT:PRO SubStudy now available on AD Workbench
by Press Office
Data from one of the largest observational and biomarker enriched studies examining Alzheimer鈥檚 Disease (AD) risk factors in cognitively healthy older adults is now available to qualified researchers.
The CHARIOT:PRO Substudy (CPSS) dataset is now available through the (ADDI) AD Workbench, following its official announcement by ADDI on 27 May.
CPSS was established in 2015, as a biomarker-enriched prospective longitudinal study in cognitively unimpaired adults, aged 60-85, succeeding the CHARIOT: PRO Main Study (CPMS), a clinical only two-year study. Both the CPMS and CPSS studies were conducted by the AGE Research Unit based at Imperial's School of Public Health, with funding from Johnson&Johnson in the initial stages.
In 2021, Gates Ventures, Merck and Takeda joined the funding consortium, allowing for the study extension with further imaging and fluid biomarker studies. CPSS ended in the summer of 2024 and the CHARIOT:PRO Longitudinal Study (CPLS) was initiated in 2025, following a generous donation to 天美传媒 from Gates Ventures.
CPSS is one of the largest observational studies of its kind worldwide. This biomarker-enriched longitudinal observational study was designed to explore the determinants of Alzheimer’s disease-related biological, clinical, and cognitive changes in cognitively unimpaired older adults, both with and without detectable evidence of Alzheimer’s disease pathology at baseline, based on Amyloid Positron Emission Tomography (PET) or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) data.
The availability of the CPSS, including extensive clinical, cognitive, and imaging, as well as fluid biomarker data, marks an important milestone in enabling researchers across the wider scientific community to accelerate international discovery and deepen insights into early disease mechanisms and dementia prevention strategies.
The AGE research team would like to sincerely thank the current and former volunteers who have participated in our CHARIOT: studies. Their longstanding commitment, generosity, and dedication have made building the CPSS dataset possible. They are our true collaborators, and without their support, this research would not have been possible.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to Gates Ventures and our wider partners and collaborators for their continued support of CHARIOT studies, and our shared mission to advance dementia prevention research. Through collaboration, open science, and innovation, we hope the CPSS dataset will contribute to meaningful advances in the field.
At a time of rapid technological and scientific advancement, initiatives such as ADDI, which encourage secure and responsible data sharing, are more important than ever.
We are truly excited to see how researchers around the world will use the CPSS dataset to drive new discoveries and foster global collaboration in the fight against dementia.
