College statement on tuition fees for 2012 entry

At a meeting of the Court of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, Imperial’s formal stakeholder body, on Friday 11 February, it was announced that it is the College’s intention, subject to agreement by the Office for Fair Access, to set fees at £9,000 for Home and EU ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ for 2012 entry. In a message to staff issued on Tuesday 15 February the Rector of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, Sir Keith O’Nions, wrote:

“At this Court meeting the Chairman confirmed the College’s position regarding tuition fees, following parliamentary backing to raise the cap. To maintain the excellence of the education we provide to ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ it is our intention, subject to agreement by the Office for Fair Access, to set fees at £9,000 for Home and EU ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ for 2012 entry. We still have a way to go in our considerations about what forms of financial aid would attract and support the most able, but needy, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½. Our message to the outside world though must be that for those who can manage Imperial’s courses, the College will work to ensure they can manage its costs.

"I will keep you informed as details become clear of the financial aid we will offer to ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ and also of plans for a long-term campaign for philanthropic support, which will give us the sustainable basis to attract the brightest and the best in the world for generations to come.”
