Professor Guy Nason appointed next Royal Statistical Society President

Professor Guy Nason, Chair in Statistics at 天美传媒, has been confirmed as the next Royal Statistical Society President.

has been appointed as the Royal Statistical Society's next President, taking over from Sir John Aston’s term at the end of 2026. 

Former Royal Statistical Society (RSS) presidents include Charles Booth, Udny Yule and former Labour prime minister Harold Wilson. , Imperial's Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, also recently held the post.

Professor Nason's research focuses on time series, forecasting, networks, computational social science, and official statistics. He has extensive experience advising government, including as co-chair of the Home Office Science Advisory Council. 

He also played a key role in the RSS’s efforts to improve the Teaching Excellence Framework and raised concerns, along with others, about the use of algorithms to grade school exams in the UK and the Caribbean during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Professor Nason said: “I am deeply honoured and truly delighted to have been elected President of the Royal Statistical Society. It is a privilege to again serve the Society.

"The Society has a long and unparalleled tradition of advancing Statistics in many spheres, addressing the key issues of the day for the benefit of all.

"I look forward to working with all members of the Society in these endeavours, especially as we approach the Society’s 200th anniversary in 2034.”
