ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ has taken the decision to end its lease on the Evelyn Gardens residences in 2030 - a move that forms part of a broader, long-term plan to provide modern, purpose-built and financially sustainable accommodation for our continuing undergraduate ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½. 

Evelyn Gardens, which includes Holbein, Southwell and Willis Jackson Halls, has provided an option for returning undergraduates for many years. However, we know that this accommodation struggles to meet the expectations of our ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ today or in the future. In particular, the halls at Evelyn Gardens lack ensuite rooms, step-free access and the modern facilities that ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ have come to expect from their accommodation.  

The implementation of this decision is being phased to minimise the impact on Imperial’s student body. Bernard Sunley and Fisher halls – which are currently unused for student accommodation - will be the first to be released, with the remaining three properties exiting the portfolio in 2030. There will be no impact to Evelyn Gardens residents between 2025 – 2030. 

In parallel, Imperial is expanding its offering of high-quality, affordable accommodation for continuing undergraduates. From this year onwards, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ can apply to live in , a purpose-built, modern student residence that offers: 

• A large number of ensuite rooms 

• Air-conditioned spaces 

• 24/7 on-site support 

• A gym, cinema room, games area, study zones and communal lounge 

• Secure bike storage and an outdoor terrace 

• Excellent transport links via nearby Tube stations 
• A welcoming community with regular events and socials 

Imperial is currently exploring options for further bed spaces at other exciting developments that are due for completion over the coming years. These developments align with Imperial’s Policy on Provision of Accommodation for Continuing Undergraduate Students, which states that “where possible and economically feasible, providing accommodation to continuing undergraduate ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ is of benefit,” and that “we will aim to secure as many suitable bedspaces as is required.” 

Our goal is to provide this accommodation affordably, using the principles of the Greater London Authority’s London Plan, endorsed by the National Union of Students, which recommends that at least 35% of new student accommodation be available at no more than 55% of the maximum maintenance loan. 

Imperial’s commitment to continuing ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ remains strong. These changes are part of a strategic shift towards higher quality, more affordable, and more sustainable housing, better suited to the needs of our student community today and into the future.
