Imperial has expanded a science Master's scholarship programme for German ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½.

Imperial has agreed a three-year partnership with the , which is the world's largest funding organisation for the international exchange of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ and researchers.

The programme will see tuition fees supported by Imperial and DAAD for up to five scholars per year, in a broad range of Master's subjects such as Climate Change, Computing and Physics. 

This is the first scholarship agreement with a European partner that will be funded through the President's scholarship fund.

A delegation from the DAAD, including Secretary General Dr Kai Sicks, and the German Embassy visited Imperial recently to discuss the programme and meet some of Imperial's German scholars. 

Vice President (International) Professor Maggie Dallman said: "This scholarship agreement is a strong signal that Imperial will do all it can to support talented ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ from Germany to study at the College. Germany is one of our closest partners and this programe will further strengthen our ties and enable ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ to broaden their international experiences and networks."

DAAD’s Secretary General, Dr Kai Sicks, said: "The DAAD appreciates ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½´s generous offer to our scholarship holders. Imperial is one of the top destinations for German science ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ wanting to study in the UK. The DAAD is doing all we can to accommodate the most talented ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ in our funding programmes. Additional fee support from UK universities such as Imperial helps to ensure participation for ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ from all social backgrounds.”

Imperial and Germany

Germany is Imperial's top European research collaborator, with around 1,500 joint papers published with German academics every year.

Top research collaborators include Technische Universität München, Max Planck Institutes, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Universität Hamburg and RWTH Aachen University.

Imperial also has a large German community, with more than 400 German ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ and 200 staff on campus, and a growing network of 3,300 alumni living in Germany.
