Animated short film explains thermal management of battery cells
A short animation launched by the Department of Mechanical Engineering explains the science behind cooling lithium-ion battery cells.
The video is based on a research paper written by Ian Hunt, Yan Zhao, Yatish Patel and Gregory Offer from the
explores the effects of two different methods of thermal management applied to lithium-ion battery cells, and concludes that tab cooling extends the lifetime of a battery pack when compared to surface cooling.
The Imperial researchers worked with Crustacean Studio to create the animation, which presents the conclusions of the paper in an accessible, friendly manner.
