IGHI host forum to look at how the seasons affect our health.

The seasons have a great impact on the health problems people experience worldwide. Whether it’s respiratory illnesses such as asthma, or outbreaks of yellow fever, seasonality continues to be on the agenda of researchers. 

The recent Global Health Forum focused on how seasonal patterns affect health.

Speakers included Professor Deborah Jarvis from Imperial’s National Heart and Lung Institute who gave the audience a broad overview of the most pertinent issues within seasonality and asthma. 

, lecturer in Geostatistics, from Imperial’s School of Public Health discussed the residual transmission of malaria, and , lecturer in Infectious Disease Analysis provided insight into the environmental influences on yellow fever.

The final talk came from research postgraduate, who discussed his current work on the impact of seasonal dynamics on mortality.

IGHI’s monthly Global Health Forums provide a platform to bring together Imperial researchers, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, and staff from across all of Imperial’s Faculties to highlight, discuss and disseminate findings on current research and innovations on relevant global health topics. The Forums encourage interdisciplinary discussions with the intention that they will foster inter-Faculty research initiatives and leverage the immense strengths of Imperial College to resolve global health priorities of the early 21st Century.

The next forum will be hosted by HELIX Centre on Thursday 16 February at 3:00pm at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London and will cover on healthcare from a design perspective.
