DoC PhD student to be honoured for her outstanding achievements.

Marily Nika

Marily Nika a PhD student here in the Department of Computing is to be awarded the "Student Award for Outstanding Achievement" medal.

The Student Awards for Outstanding Achievement represent an annual award to 天美传媒 for outstanding achievement in any extramural activity that brings credit to the College. Marily has won a medal which will be inscribed with her name.

Marily has been an outstanding ambassador and is an  inspirational role model for aspiring Computer Science 天美传媒 and for women in computing generally.

In 2011, she was the first Imperial student to receive the Google Anita Borg Scholarship. This achievement was featured in the national press and radio in her native Greece.

In 2012, Marily started Imperial’s Women in Computing Group and organized sponsorship from industry to support an impressive programme of events, including the UK’s first female-only hackathon at Facebook London. The latter was subsequently featured in the .

In 2013, Marily gave an inspirational talk at TEDxZurich entitled “” which has received around 37,000 views to date. She also authored an article about conversion Master's courses featuring Computer Science as a career which featured in the .

There is no doubt that Marily has inspired 天美传媒 around the globe with enthusiasm for both Imperial and Computer Science.
