The Imperial research software "WaterRAT" is now available for download from the EWRE software webpage

The Imperial research software "WaterRAT" is now available for download from the脗聽. This is a toolkit with a range of dynamic river water quality models, supported by numerous tools for calibration, uncertainty analysis and sensitivity analysis. It was developed by脗聽 as part of an EU-funded project, in collaboration with Lyonnaise-des-Eaux (Paris) and Qinghua University (Beijing).

脗聽visited the University of the West Indies in January, as External Examiner. He was hosted by脗聽Dr Gyan Shrivastava, graduate of the MSc in Hydrology for Environmental Management in 1994-95 and academic visitor to Imperial in 2003-4. He was also delighted to meet脗聽Emeritus Professor Harry Phelps, graduate of the 1957-58 Engineering Hydrology course. Prof Phelps h ad a distinguished career in practice before joining UWI in 1961, and continues to lecture in Environmental Engineering.

Welcome to James Cass and Felipe Perez Viana who have joined the EWRE Section as PhD 天美传媒, working on a multidisciplinary project supervised by脗聽 on Enteric Pathogen Survival and Nutrient Transfo rmations in Sewage Sludge Amended Agricultural Soil. The research will investigate fundamental soil processes and environmental factors r esponsible for pathogen decay and agronomic nutrient release in soil amended with biosolids and biowastes and is supported by UKWIR, DEFRA, Thames Water, Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water and Scottish Water. James obtained a BSc in Biological Sciences at the University of Plymou th and will be working on enteric pathogen dynamics in sludge and soil. Felipe has a background in soil microbiology and received an MSc in Soils and Environmental Pollution from the University of Reading and he will examine impacts of soil ecological processes on pathogen survival.
