LUNCHTIME SEMINARS脗听
We are pleased to announce the programme for this year's EWRE lunchtime research seminars (below), which will take place in Rm 141. Everyone in the Section is encouraged to come, to hear and enquire about the work presently going on in the Section. MSc 天美传媒 are especially welcome (presentations may provide useful background for choosing an MSc project later this term).

As a part of the long term commitment of UNESCO to strengthen the international network of centres dealing with Urban Water Management (UWM), Planning Conference was held in Tehran, Iran on 25th- 26th February 2005 followed by the meeting of the Governing Board of the Regional Centre for Urban Water Managemen t held on 27th February.脗听 was one of the 2 international experts invited to formulate long term research agenda of the centre and to present ideas on the priority research projects relevant to UWM in arid and semi-arid climates. 芒聙聺



Welcome to Carol Edwards who joins us as our new Environmental Engineering Research Officer. Carol studied chemistry by day release whilst working in laboratory quality control then joined the Ministry of Defence at Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, London in 1980 as a scientific officer working on chemical analysis and quality assurance of materials for triservices (Army RAF and Navy). In 1993 she moved to UCL as Laboratory Manager in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. Research areas included chemical and catalytic reaction engineering, combustion, particle technology, crystallisation and fluidization. In 1996 she rejoined Defence Evaluation and Research Agency at Fort Halstead in Kent (now called 芒聙聵QinetiQ芒聙聶) as research scientist in weapons systems, specialising in Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray analysis of energetic materials. We wish Carol a warm welcome.


脗听and David Fisk have both been invited to participate in a joint Houston-London conference on 'Climate Change, Extreme Events and Coastal Cities' held at Rice University, Houston, Texas on 9/10 February 2005. The event is organised by the Shell Center for Sustainability, the Universities in London, UK Science & Technology and the British Consulate-General, Houston.



We are pleased to welcome Mr Khoi Tran Tien, who arrived on the 17th February to begin PhD studies under the supervision of脗听. Mr Khoi holds an appointment as Lecturer in the Department of Environment of the University of Technology of Hochiminh City (HCMUT), Vietnam. He has a B.Sc. degree in Environmental Engineering from HCMUT and a M.Sc. degree in Environment and Energy Engineering from Sheffield University, UK. Mr Khoi is supported by the Vietnam Government and his studies will be in the field of water and wastewater treatment.
