New ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ PhD Scholarship scheme will provide highly competitive opportunities for the world's most talented ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½

The College is now recruiting worldwide for the brightest and best ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ to take up 50 prestigious new PhD scholarships.

Launched today, the new ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ PhD Scholarship scheme will provide highly competitive opportunities for talented ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ with the ability, commitment and creativity to join the College’s research community, working alongside internationally renowned scientists.

The scholarships are available to ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ with the passion and aptitude to work in one of the College’s research areas in science, engineering, medicine or business. Including fully funded fees and a £20,000 per annum stipend, they are open to Home, EU and international applicants.

The scheme forms part of 1,000 new postgraduate research opportunities available at the College every year and has been partly funded by the generosity of Imperial College alumni.

As well as support from their host departments, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ will have access to the College’s award-winning Graduate School, which works with postgraduate ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ on their professional development, both within their research programmes and during their future careers.

PhD student Ram Sopher from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, receives support through a pre-existing PhD scholarship from the College. His research group works to provide a better understanding of the biomechanics of human joints, in order to develop new treatments for the debilitation and pain caused by joint injuries and diseases. Speaking about the opportunity he received thanks to his own scholarship Ram says:

"I chose to come specifically to Imperial to pursue my PhD, not only because it is one of the finest academic institutions in the world, but also because I wanted to be a part of a  world-renowned research group that has unrivalled expertise in my area of study.

"I feel truly privileged and honoured to have had the opportunity to study here at Imperial, and to focus my research on such a fascinating, innovative and important field of study. I would not have been able to do this without the kind support I have been awarded."

The scheme is now open for applications, with candidates required to have agreed a research project with a supervisor in an Imperial department in advance.
