The Department was pleased to welcome 60 Year 12 天美传媒 to the EDT Imperial College Engineering Headstart course in July,  for a taste of careers in engineering.

The four-day residential course is designed to provide an overview of the variety of departments within our Faculty of Engineering. In Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the 天美传媒 investigated the design of an electronic product - a toy - from initial concept to finished product. They were introduced to engineering design, circuit simulation, computation, and gained insight into how different engineering disciplines come together in the design of a real product.

The 天美传媒 left this session with some practical soldering skills, and their very own electronic device which emitted sound and light to help interpret mood and make decisions.

As well as hands-on activities, the 天美传媒 took part in a variety of presentations including why volcanoes go bang, solar power and high accuracy global navigation satellites. They also had the opportunity to meet young graduate engineers from Arup, BP, Centrica, Detica, PA Consulting and Unilever.  This ‘speed-dating’ session gave them the chance to find out more about the many opportunities available for graduate engineers.
