New report examines the cost of chronic illness - and how the rise of diabetes has been overlooked

The World Health Organisation predicts rising numbers of premature deaths worldwide from diabetes. Desmond Johnson, Professor of Clinical Medicine at 天美传媒, Dr Joanne Epping-Jordan, co-author of the report and Dr Rifat Atun, the Director of Tanaka Business School's Centre of Health Management, give their views.

Rifat discusses the big economic threat that the sudden rise in diabetes represents, both in the direct cost of treatment, etc, that a country has to bear; and also issues such as lost productivity, as more workers take time off through illness.
