This programme is for people managers who want to build the critical leadership knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to have a real impact on team effectiveness and cross-functional influence.

It is also an opportunity to gain a formal, nationally recognised leadership qualification.

Delivered by Imperial College Executive Education and Corndel, a leading provider of work-based development, it combines academic excellence with exceptional vocational training.

The 16-month programme is fully aligned to the and accredited by the Chartered Management Institute.

Due to government funding changes, the July 2026 cohort will be the last opportunity to undertake this programme.

Who should attend

This programme is geared towards experienced people managers looking to excel by enhancing their leadership and management skills.

Please note: this programme is not suitable for staff who have already completed a leadership and management qualification at level 5 or above.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

  • Have at least two years of people management experience and be working in a role with at least one direct report.
  • Have approval from your line manager.
  • Be ready to commit to the minimum study requirement (approximately 7-8 hours a week).
  • Have agreed with your manager that your participation can be balanced with the operational demands of your role.
  • Have long enough remaining on your contract of employment to complete the programme (i.e. at least 16 months from the course start date).
  • Meet  funding rules around Right to Work in the UK and residency.
Course Content and Delivery

The programme is fully aligned to the  and will include units on:

  • Understanding yourself and building greater confidence as a leader.
  • Commercial and strategic acumen, including strategic and operational planning, leading change, improving processes and strengthening financial literacy.
  • Extending your leadership presence through others, including communication, influence and collaboration.
  • Delivering impact to the organisation by mastering project delivery.
  • Data & information management, techniques for presenting insights using visuals and infographics.
  • Sustaining long-term leadership impact.

Delivery will take the form of self-directed e-learning, 1-1 coaching, monthly 90-minute group sessions, five core workshops and a bi-monthly ‘Leadership Lab’ aligned to topics identified as a priority learning areas for your cohort. Learners will also attend a monthly Imperial Masterclass and interact with academics and experts at the forefront of research in leadership, AI, data and innovation.

On successful completion

On successful completion, participants will gain:

  • Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship
  • Level 5 CMI Certificate in Management and Leadership
