This welcoming, practical course offers a continuous and supportive introduction to making art. Designed as a rolling learning experience, it explores a rich variety of subjects, artistic movements, individual artists and creative techniques through a learning-by-making approach.
Each term focuses on a different artistic style, technique, or genre, giving you the opportunity to develop confidence, deepen your understanding of artistic processes, and build a personal creative ‘toolkit’ of practical skills.
The course is ideal for complete beginners, while also offering fresh inspiration and new directions for anyone wishing to continue their creative journey.
This term's theme: Myth, Miniatures and the Decorative Border
This term’s artist toolkit class involves a dive into the the artistry of miniatures from around the world. We will be trying our hand at painting mythical characters, creatures and landscapes that inhabit ancient paintings and illuminations as well as exploring the materials, techniques and patterns used in creating their beautifully decorative borders. Ending with a chance to develop your own image for the festive period.
The mediums used will be mainly watercolour and gouache. All levels of experience welcome.
This is an adult education course open to everyone. No previous experience is necessary.
