As modern gas turbines push towards more efficient and lightweight designs with reduced mechanical damping, structural vibrations can start to limit safe operating ranges. Particularly in fan and compressor stages, when small-scale aerodynamic structures couple with blade vibrations, an aeroelastic instability known as non-synchronous vibration (NSV) can arise.

This numerical project aims to characterise and understand the formation and propagation dynamics of these disturbances to gain insight into the mechanism of NSV and its potential mitigation. The research is performed in collaboration with Ecole Centrale de Lyon on a state-of-the-art fan rig representative of modern ultra-high-bypass-ratio fans, the .
