We are thrilled to welcome the Global Online MBA Class of 2026-2027 (��ý who began their studies in September 2024 and January 2025) to Imperial Business School. This cohort of driven professionals has chosen to immerse themselves in a truly diverse programme to transform their careers, build their global networks and broaden their outlook.

With the option to study for 21, 24 or 32 months from January or September, the Global Online MBA offers ��ý the flexibility to study at a world-renowned institution from wherever they are in the world, while continuing their career. Leveraging the Business School’s unique online learning platform, the cohort benefits from rich collaboration opportunities and comprehensive support. The platform allows ��ý to complete their online modules, track their peers’ progress on modules and stay in contact with faculty and classmates. It also offers additional features designed to ensure ��ý feel integrated into the Imperial community.

Although delivered online, the programme includes an on-campus Induction Week, where ��ý connect with their cohort and faculty through sessions and networking events. This year, they also gathered at London venues, collaborating with peers from other MBA programmes.

After completing the rigorous application and interview process, ��ý are invited to take online pre-study modules to build a foundation in key areas such as accounting, corporate sustainability, finance and social innovation and ethics. Given the programme’s diverse industry experience, these modules ensure ��ý are well-prepared to excel and apply their learning effectively.

The Business School offers a variety of personalised career services ��ý can access before, during and after their studies. Throughout the duration of the programme, Global Online MBA ��ý also embark on a transformative Personal Leadership Journey, a careers-led module equipping them with the skills and confidence to thrive as global leaders, with a focus on personal impact, networking and executive communication. Our MBA ��ý graduate with the tools needed to excel in their careers and use their skills internationally in a competitive job market. 76% of the Class of 2020 changed roles following the completion of their MBA, demonstrating the impact of our career support.

What lies in the years ahead?

In addition to rigorous core modules in leadership and management that prepare ��ý for complex environments, the programme allows them to customise their MBA with two or more Flexcore modules, four electives, and a concentration. In the spring term, ��ý put their learning into practice through the Capstone module. Working in teams, they tackle a real-world business challenge, applying strategic thinking, leadership skills and innovative problem-solving to deliver impactful recommendations. This hands-on experience reinforces their ability to navigate complex business environments and make meaningful change.

During the summer term of their second year, ��ý can further enhance their global business experience through optional Global Exchanges and IB Glocal Electives. These experiences let ��ý study abroad or tackle local business challenges, gaining cross-cultural insights and expanding their global network. If ��ý would like the opportunity to collaborate and travel alongside the other MBA programmes at the Business School, they can also choose to take part in Global Experience Week.

Can you share a brief overview of your professional background?

I have a background in technology and finance, spanning the past eight years, and currently work at Bank of America in a project delivery team within Global Markets Technology. As a business analyst, I primarily focus on delivering technical solutions for a wide range of financial products offered worldwide. Additionally, I have experience in the hospitality industry, having been involved in the management of our family restaurant.

What motivated you to pursue an MBA?

Pursuing an MBA has been a long-term ambition of mine since graduating from university. I aimed to gain experience in the working world before starting my MBA, allowing me to apply a better context to my studies and address the challenges I encountered in my career. With an entrepreneurial mindset, I realised I wanted to bridge the gap between generating an idea and bringing it to fruition – making an MBA at Imperial the clear choice. Upon completing the programme, I hope to embark on my entrepreneurial journey, making full use of the services provided by the Enterprise Lab.

What do you hope to learn or achieve during your time on the MBA programme?

I am excited to learn more about entrepreneurial thinking and how to effectively develop a startup. I am hoping to leverage the opportunity of being around likeminded, bright individuals to stimulate new ideas and ways of thinking. I hope this will lead to fresh opportunities to deliver unique products and solutions to the world. I am also really enjoying learning the theory around organisational processes and functions. I find myself already applying the theories I am learning to my current work context and thinking about how I can implement the concepts I am learning there. I hope that I can learn more theory and ideas to help me view my career and the organisation I work for in new innovative ways.

What motivated you to choose online education at Imperial Business School?

The greatest motivator was the flexibility and the ability to pace my learning. Furthermore, the Global Online MBA was ranked first in the QS rankings, and after attending an Open Day at the Business School, the decision was easy to make. Can you share an overview of your professional background?

I began my career at the German Chamber of Commerce in Peru, eventually becoming a Project Manager, where I facilitated business relations between Germany and Peru, focusing on technological innovation and sustainable solutions in mining. This experience deepened my understanding of key economic sectors and international trade. I then transitioned to my current role as a Trade Manager for one of Peru’s largest steel distributors in the mining sector, further expanding my industry expertise.

What motivated you to pursue an MBA, and what are your career goals after completing the programme?

Working in a male-dominated industry with highly experienced professionals has pushed me to develop adaptability and leadership skills early on. While I’ve advanced quickly, I recognise the need to complement my experience with structured business knowledge. An MBA at Imperial Business School will refine my strategic thinking, enhance my business acumen, and expand my global network.

In the short term, I aim to advance within my industry, deepening my expertise. In the long term, I aspire to launch an entrepreneurial venture at the intersection of technology, mining and sustainability in Peru.

How have you built connections and networked with your peers and professors?

I started networking during the Admission Weekend in October, connecting with four cohort members, and strengthened these relationships during Induction Week in January. We communicate daily via group chats, LinkedIn and IB Connect. I also engage regularly with my team and professors through academic discussions and professional exchanges. Additionally, I stay in regular contact with professors through the ED Discussion platform, ensuring continuous engagement and learning.

You were awarded the Latin America Regional Scholarship, what does this mean to you?

I am truly honoured to have received the Latin America Regional Scholarship. Being the sole female representative from Latin America in my cohort makes this award especially meaningful, as it highlights diversity and the opportunity to bring unique perspectives to the group. It not only acknowledges my achievements and potential but also reinforces my commitment to contributing diverse perspectives to the cohort.

At the start of the year, we welcomed a new and dynamic cohort of executive professionals to Imperial Business School’s Executive MBA programme. The Class of 2027 brings together 31 experienced professionals – 42% of whom are female – from a wide range of industries, backgrounds and countries. With an average of 15 years’ work experience across healthcare, finance, consulting, technology, media, government and real estate, and 19 nationalities represented, this eclectic mix creates dynamic classroom conversations.

Akin Akinyemi

How has your professional journey across industries prepared you for leadership?

My journey has been more diverse than I ever anticipated. I started at the intersection of healthcare and AI, researching machine learning for computer-aided medical diagnosis, before transitioning briefly into the energy sector as a software engineer.

For the last decade, however, I have worked in financial services in various data leadership roles. Today, I lead a function at Bloomberg where we are embedding industrial engineering techniques into our data manufacturing processes.

Why did you choose an Executive MBA at this stage of your career, and why Imperial?

I’ve reached a pivotal point where my role has shifted from managing specialists to driving large-scale organisational transformation. While my technical foundation is solid, leading a transformation function at a global firm like Bloomberg requires a broader, multi-dimensional toolkit. I see the Executive MBA as the bridge to the next decade of my career, providing the intellectual rigour and diverse perspectives necessary to move from functional leadership to high-impact business leadership.

Having hired several Imperial engineering alumni throughout my career, I was already well-acquainted with the calibre of the community and the strength of the brand. I wanted to be part of an ecosystem that does not just teach management in a vacuum but understands how to harness technical innovation to solve real-world business challenges.

What are the benefits of balancing an Executive MBA with full-time work?

I view my organisation as a laboratory for the frameworks I’m learning in the classroom. Beyond applying strategy and design thinking to my own projects, I see my role as a 'multiplier'; taking the tools and insights gained at Imperial and sharing them to develop the talent around me. For instance, I’m already viewing our philanthropic initiatives through the lens of the Corporate Sustainability module, allowing me to contribute more strategically to our firm's broader social impact.

Ella Dehghani

Why pursue an Executive MBA at this stage of a senior healthcare career?

I’ve worked across pharmaceuticals, medtech, digital health and healthcare innovation, often at the intersection of science, business and policy. Today, my work focuses on strategic leadership in healthcare, alongside independent initiatives aimed at improving how health systems translate evidence into practice.

At this stage of my career, I am already operating at a senior level. My focus is increasingly on preventive healthcare and system-level change - moving upstream, where earlier intervention, better data use and smarter incentives can improve outcomes at scale.

What I need is not functional training, but space to sharpen judgment, challenge assumptions and strengthen how I lead across organisations and systems. The Executive MBA provides exactly that, without stepping away from practice.

Why is a STEM-focused Executive MBA advantageous for healthcare leaders?

Understanding technology and innovation is critical for leaders today, particularly in healthcare. Decisions increasingly shape not just organisations, but patient outcomes and population health. Imperial’s science-driven environment supports a more responsible and informed approach to innovation.

How will the Executive MBA strengthen your leadership and decision-making skills?

For me, leadership is about creating clarity where systems are complex, making informed decisions with incomplete information and enabling others to do their best work. It is as much about responsibility and judgment as it is about direction.

Through the Executive MBA, I want to further strengthen my systems thinking, strategic decision-making in uncertainty and executive communication – particularly where science, regulation and business priorities intersect.

Alongside the strategy, leadership and innovation-focused modules, learning alongside experienced peers adds depth and realism to every discussion. It surfaces blind spots and challenges comfortable thinking in ways that are difficult to replicate elsewhere.

What is your reason for pursuing an Executive MBA?

For the past six and a half years, I’ve been immersed in the cybersecurity industry at Darktrace. For that reason, pursuing an Executive MBA will serve a dual purpose. First, it’s about becoming a more well-rounded leader and ensuring that I can collaborate effectively across functions and speak the language of finance, operations, product and other critical areas of the organisation.

Second, it’s about preparation for the next chapter. As I look toward more senior leadership roles, I recognise that success at that level requires not just functional expertise but strategic thinking, financial acumen and the ability to lead holistically across the business. The Executive MBA is my investment in building that foundation now so that when the opportunity comes, I’m ready to step into it with confidence.

Which modules and leadership initiatives are you most looking forward to?

I’m particularly excited about the “Leveraging AI for Sustainable Business Value” module. Given the pace of AI adoption in my industry, this module feels incredibly timely, addressing how we move beyond experimentation to create genuine, sustainable value. Assessing AI initiatives through a holistic business lens – considering operational changes, ROI, risk and long-term viability – is a skill I want to develop further.

Beyond the classroom learning, I’m particularly excited about the leadership journey with our Executive Coaches. That kind of personalised development will directly influence how I show up as a leader: how I present to senior stakeholders, how I coach and develop my team and how I navigate complex interpersonal dynamics within the organisation.

How does learning with senior executive peers enhance the Executive MBA experience?

Learning alongside experienced executive peers is one of the most valuable aspects of the Executive MBA for me. The ability to discuss a complex business challenge with smart, accomplished professionals who come from completely different industries, opens perspectives I simply wouldn’t encounter in my day-to-day work in tech and cybersecurity.

What has your career journey in healthcare looked like to date?

I was trained as a kidney medicine specialist and worked in clinical practice before joining the pharmaceutical industry, which is where I’ve been for the last 13 years. I’m currently one of the global leads for the medical affairs function in Astellas Pharmaceuticals. My role bridges science and strategy in healthcare organisations, ensuring that accurate, evidence-based information is generated, communicated and applied in the industry.

What does being part of the Imperial Business School community mean to you?

I am very excited to be a part of the Imperial Business School global family. This strong and extensive network is one that I hope to rely on to find guidance and support for any future ventures. From potential new business partners, to nurturing future leaders who share the same aspirations as me, the community here really does show you the value of Imperial.

Beyond career progression, what long-term impact do you think Imperial and the Executive MBA will have on you?

How has your professional journey across strategy, technology and communications shaped your leadership perspective?

I have spent 17 years at the intersection of strategy, technology and communication across banking, consulting, fintech, research and media. In my most recent role, I served as VP of Communications & Engagement for the ProductTechnology division, partnering with CIOs on large-scale digital transformation.

What has shaped my perspective is navigating complexity - regulatory environments, cross-cultural stakeholder management and translating technical transformation into narratives that drive change. I have learned that the hardest problems are rarely technical; they are about alignment, clarity and bringing people along.

What made Imperial Business School stand out when researching Executive MBA

After evaluating other London-based programmes, Imperial consistently emerged as the strongest choice for me. It stood out because it is built for leaders who operate in environments where technology is not adjacent to strategy but embedded in it.

With expert faculty across AI, data science and engineering, the modular structure and its London location offered a compelling combination of academic depth and practical applicability. The Executive MBA felt designed for the world we are stepping into, not the one we are leaving behind.

Why was an Executive MBA the right choice at this stage of your career?

I’ve led communications, marketing and strategic initiatives across a wide range of industries. While I’m confident in the impact I can deliver today, I wanted to deepen my understanding of finance, data analytics and artificial intelligence - areas that now sit at the heart of strategic decision-making.

This stage of my career also demands strong judgment and balance. Managing senior leadership roles alongside raising a three-and-a-half-year-old has reinforced the value of focus, preparation and a sense of humour to make even the busiest weeks workable – if I can survive toddler negotiations, I can survive modular deadlines.

With this in mind, taking a purposeful career break to pursue an Executive MBA at Imperial felt like the right next step. The curriculum promises to accelerate my development and enable me to contribute confidently at board level and lead transformational programs with authority.

How has your employer supported your decision to pursue an Executive MBA at Imperial?

The response from my employer has been very positive. Throughout my career, I have worked across intergovernmental organisations – most notably the United Nations – where I have contributed to policy research and analysis, project implementation and international consensus building. More recently, I have stepped into a new position as External Relations Officer.

In my role, there is a strong appreciation for the importance of continuous learning and leadership development, particularly in the complex geopolitical and rapidly evolving technological landscape. The Executive MBA is seen not only as an individual investment, but one that will strengthen my ability to contribute more thoughtfully and strategically in my professional role.

What are the benefits of learning alongside executive professionals from diverse sectors?

Coming from an intergovernmental and multilateral background, I am currently the only participant in my cohort with this type of industry experience. This makes the opportunity for cross-sectoral learning particularly valuable. I am keen not only to learn from peers in the private sector, but also to contribute a different perspective shaped by policy, diplomacy and international cooperation. This exchange helps challenge perceptions on both sides and ultimately leads to more nuanced, well-rounded leadership thinking.

Why are immersive global experiences important for senior leaders?

For leaders at this level, immersive global experiences provide the opportunity to step outside familiar environments and engage directly with different innovation ecosystems, leadership cultures and ways of thinking – all of which are critical when operating in complex, global settings.

Having witnessed first-hand the level of advancement, innovation and dynamism across the Global South, I see them as the next frontier for economic growth and investment and am keen to explore global experiences in these markets.

Sepideh Shokrpour

How has your professional journey across business, media and social impact evolved so far?

My career has evolved across business development, strategy and community-led initiatives at the intersection of media, healthcare, finance and social impact . Having worked across Australia, Hong Kong, the United States and the UK, I’ve developed a global perspective on how organisations operate within complex systems.

I currently serve as Director of Coalitions and Community Innovation at Bloomberg Media, where I collaborate with a global network of CEOs, policymakers, subject matter experts and entrepreneurs to develop actionable solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing business and society, particularly in climate and health.

How will you leverage Imperial’s global network and diverse Executive MBA community?

As organisations and industries continue to evolve at a record-breaking pace, staying intellectually agile requires exposure to perspectives beyond one’s immediate sector or role. Being part of a global network of ambitious, highly informed peers allows me to remain closely connected to how different sectors are adapting to change and how those insights can translate into immediate implementation in my work.

Over the long term, I see the Imperial community not just as a network, but as a living resource of people with whom I can exchange ideas, collaborate and continue learning well beyond the programme itself.

What has your professional background in global financial markets looked like?

My career spans two decades in global financial markets, with a strong focus on cross-asset solutions across FX, rates, credit and structured products.

I am currently an Executive Director at BBVA London in the Global Markets division, working as a cross-asset sales and coverage professional focused on Turkey, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. My role sits at the intersection of client coverage, structuring and strategic origination, helping financial institutions navigate balance-sheet, funding and risk-management challenges in complex and often volatile markets.

How does the Executive MBA enable immediate application of learning at work?

I view the programme as an integrated part of my professional development rather than a parallel activity. After a few exciting days of exploring Kenya, we took part in a range of insightful sessions today:

Kartik Jayaram (McKinsey Kenya’s partner): we discussed economic development and sustainability in Kenya. The main takeaway was ‘there is no one Africa – each country in Africa experiences divergent development paths.’ For instance, there are vast differences between African economies such as Morocco and South Africa.
James Mwangi (Founder and CEO of Africa Climate Ventures): we explored the impact of climate change on Africa and the effects of COP28 on African carbon markets.
Carlotta Dal Lago (Head of Business Development at Africa Legal Network): an Imperial Executive MBA Alum! She discussed the Flip Flopi project - which turns recycled plastic into boats and furniture, and the challenges of being an entrepreneur.
Atiq Anjarwalla (Senior Partner at Africa Legal Network): he shared the inspiring journey of creating a pan-African law firm that combines legal, tax, regulatory and commercial advice

Understanding business in Africa

The sessions taught me that Africa cannot be viewed as a monolithic entity; diverse governance, culture and business operations require localised strategies. This insight has reshaped my global business perspective and challenged my previously western-centric views.

Continuing with the educational element of our trip, we had engaging sessions with Roam Electric, Koko Networks, and Freehand Movement, gaining insights into sustainable business models and African entrepreneurship. We tackled a business challenge in groups, developing and pitching a marketing strategy for Roam.

Personal highlights from the trip

Going on safari in Maasai Mara after our week in Nairobi was the highlight of my trip. Witnessing wildlife in their natural habitat was awe-inspiring and reinforced the importance of environmental sustainability, not just for people but also for the broader ecosystem.

This year’s cohort of 98 ��ý brings together a wealth of experience, through an average of seven years' work experience across industries including technology (21%), banking and finance (21%), consulting (16%), energy (9%), healthcare (8%) and engineering (7%). 41% of the class are female and 34 nationalities are represented on the programme from regions across the UK (30%), Europe (30%), Asia (22%), Africa/the Middle East (10%) and the US (8%), this truly international class fosters a global exchange of ideas and perspectives.

In this blog, we take a closer look at the individuals who make up the talented Class of 2026, including their motivations, backgrounds and what led them to Imperial Business School.

What lies in the years ahead?

After completing their pre-study modules, which equipped them with the foundational knowledge needed to excel, our ��ý officially began an immersive induction week on campus. This week was designed to ease them into their new environment with introductory lectures, networking with their new peers and meeting faculty.

Kicking off with core modules in key management principles, the ��ý begin to delve into essential business theories and practical applications, incorporating case studies and simulations to consolidate their learning.

As this programme welcomes ��ý from a range of disciplines, pursuing different paths in their careers, they have the flexibility to choose from six elective modules to tailor their learning journey. They can choose to specialise in the following areas:

A global perspective is crucial for aspiring leaders; therefore, providing ��ý with international exposure is a key component of our Weekend MBA programme. The Global Experience Week offers ��ý the opportunity to travel abroad with other Imperial MBA cohorts, explore dynamic business markets, learn from innovative companies and immerse themselves in a different culture. Previous Global Experience Week destinations have included Brazil and Kenya, where ��ý examined how business can drive climate action.

Company and role: Orthopaedic Surgery Registrar within NHS and Co-founder of Joint Venture Health
Education: Medicine at Cardiff University

Can you share an overview of your professional background?

I am an Orthopaedic Surgery Registrar (formerly in a training programme) currently practising within the NHS, in trauma and elective surgery. Alongside my clinical career, I co-founded Joint Venture Health - an international healthcare facilitation company tackling the crisis of NHS waiting times by enabling UK patients to undergo timely and affordable joint replacement surgery with NHS-trained consultants at a world-class hospital in Bangalore, India. This entrepreneurial venture has allowed me to transition into the healthcare business space, gaining invaluable experience in cross-border healthcare delivery, start-up operations and strategic business development.

What motivated you to pursue a Weekend MBA, and what are your career goals after completing the programme?

The motivation behind pursuing this MBA stems from my desire to bridge the worlds of clinical excellence and business leadership. The reality of NHS under-resourcing and my own experiences during COVID-19 highlighted that health and business are inseparable—economic stability underpins a functioning healthcare system. I want to be a leader who understands both.
My career goals reflect this dual focus. I plan to grow Joint Venture Health into a scalable business, revolutionising orthopaedic surgical pathways in the UK, while simultaneously transitioning into management consulting to sharpen my business problem-solving toolkit. Ultimately, I aim to become a Medical Director within the NHS, driving systemic change armed with both clinical insight and strategic business expertise. Beyond this, I am passionate about scaling my family’s pharmacy business in Nigeria, honouring my grandmother’s memory by ensuring safe and effective access to medication.

What global experience are you looking forward to the most and why?

Based upon the previous cohort’s Global Experience Week in Nairobi, Kenya - this excites me most. Having roots in Nigeria and firsthand exposure to healthcare inequalities in Sub-Saharan Africa, I am passionate about exploring how business can be a force for good across the continent.

This experience will offer valuable insights into how the business world is changing and ideally provide exposure into healthcare delivery models in emerging markets, equipping me with the tools to scale my family’s pharmacy business in Nigeria and explore future healthcare ventures across Africa.

It is more than a global experience—it is an opportunity to learn, give back and build a future that honours my family’s legacy.

Which scholarship(s) did you receive, and what inspired you to apply?

I am honoured to have been awarded three prestigious scholarships for the Weekend MBA programme at Imperial Business School: The Black Future Leader Award, the Dean’s Impact Scholarship for Entrepreneurship and the Imperial Excellence Scholarship*. These awards recognise my professional achievements, leadership potential and my commitment to driving positive change within the healthcare sector.

I applied for these scholarships as they represent more than just financial support; they acknowledge my aspirations to transition from clinical practice to business leadership and my desire to make a meaningful impact. The Black Future Leader Award is particularly special to me, reflecting Imperial’s commitment to fostering diversity and empowering individuals from underrepresented backgrounds. Being recognised as a future leader reinforces my belief in my capabilities and fuels my determination to excel.

Charlotte Cunningham

Nationality: British
Company and role: Investment Manager at Department for Business and Trade
Education: European Politics, Society and Economics (with an Erasmus year in Madrid) at University of Birmingham

Can you share an overview of your professional background?

I have worked in the Department for Business and Trade for the past four years, working as Private Secretary to the Secretary of State, on trade tariff policy, and as an Investment Manager in the Office for Investment. Prior to the Civil Service, I worked as an Account Director in a business development consultancy, and before that I worked in Colombia with the regional government for three years.

Why did you choose the Weekend MBA format at Imperial Business School?

Having researched MBA options in the UK, I realised that Imperial Business School was the best fit for me. Not only is it a prestigious university, but the weekend format allows me the flexibility to work full-time. The science and technology focus at Imperial complements my work, where I often speak with potential investors from AI, technology and industrial fields with interest in the UK market.

What motivated you to pursue a Weekend MBA, and what are your career goals after completing the programme?

I want to add value to the government’s offer to investors. I believe the government should truly understand businesses, why they succeed and their challenges. In my role, I would like to become an increasingly useful voice for investors, with the ability to speak their language and understand the pressure points when they enter or expand in the UK. I hope to progress within my current role, work towards future roles with No.10 Downing Street or the Treasury and continue working with businesses.

What do you hope to learn from the Weekend MBA, both professionally and personally?

I would like to revive my enjoyment of maths, especially learning its application in the professional world through Corporate Finance and Financial and Management Accounting modules. I also want to meet a new, diverse group of people who operate across different industries and professions.

Personally, I also want to feel challenged, as well as experience a learning environment where I can debate and learn with international colleagues. I want to push myself, know more about business and be equipped to deliver as a leader in the future.

Ancelmo Andrello

Nationality: Brazilian/Italian
Company and role: HR Technology Management at CRH Group
Education: BArch of Architecture and Urbanism at Universidade Anhembi Morumbi, Sao Paulo, Brazil

Can you share an overview of your professional background?

I specialise in HR technology, rewards and systems, helping large organisations optimise their HR processes. As an HR Technology Manager, I focus on HRIS (Human Resource Information System), compensation frameworks, and end-to-end HR processes blending strategic and technical expertise to ensure technology effectively supports people strategies.

My path into HR tech was unconventional—I started in architecture, drawn to structure and creativity. Over time, my interest shifted to how systems shape workplace dynamics, leading me to pivot into HR technology, where I apply systems thinking to improve organisational processes.

What do you hope to gain from Imperial’s Weekend MBA programme to support your career aspirations?

Learning from such an engaged and ambitious group is just as valuable as the coursework itself. The ability to exchange ideas, collaborate on projects and gain insights from peers in different industries and global markets is something I know will shape my growth in ways I can’t even anticipate yet.

I also hope to expand my impact beyond my current role and location. With HR technology and automation reshaping workplaces, I see an opportunity to bridge the gap between people and AI while ensuring workforces remain efficient, fair and human-centric. Gaining a broader business perspective in finance, economics, and marketing will strengthen my strategic decision-making as I work toward leadership—whether in the corporate world or as a consultant.

Ultimately, I aspire to lead my own consulting practice, helping businesses navigate HR tech and the future of work. At the same time, I remain open to corporate roles that align with my vision for fair, accessible, and globally connected workplaces.

Are there any specific projects or initiatives you're excited to work on with your classmates during the programme?

I’m really looking forward to the Capstone Consulting Project, which will give us the chance to tackle a real-world business challenge alongside a company. It’s an opportunity to put what we’ve learned into practice, work through complex problems and collaborate with classmates who bring a variety of perspectives and expertise.

I’m excited to contribute my experience while also learning from others in areas outside my own. It will be a great way to push our thinking, develop practical solutions and see firsthand how different industries approach challenges.

What does receiving the LGBTQ+ Scholarship mean to you, and what advice do you have for future applicants?

Receiving the LGBTQ+ Scholarship is both an honour and a personal milestone. Beyond financial support, it recognises my journey, challenges, and values. While it reflects progress, it’s also a reminder that barriers still exist for LGBTQ+ individuals in business.

For those applying, my advice is to own your story and be authentic. This scholarship isn’t just about achievements, it’s about your impact and perspective. Most importantly, remember your voice matters, and this is a chance to drive change, challenge norms, and build a more inclusive future. Go for it!

Can you share an overview of your professional background?

I am an expert in career and workplace culture, with extensive experience setting up and managing shared workspaces across the UK. As the Director at Projects, a coworking space operator, I have supported thousands of organisations in their growth. . I am also the Founder of Favourite Positions, a platform dedicated to workplace empowerment, born from my frustrations with outdated career norms, gender biases and ageism. Through this platform, I have built an engaged community of over 10,000 followers, and my work has been featured on the BBC, Channel 4, Cosmopolitan, Metro, and Start Up Magazine,

What motivated you to pursue a Weekend MBA, and what are your career goals after completing the programme?

I’m committed to creating workplaces that empower individuals, drive business success, and ensure equal opportunities for all. This programme will refine my leadership and enhance my ability to create meaningful change in business and society.

After the Weekend MBA, I plan to expand the Projects platform across the UK, providing more professionals with opportunities for inclusive workspaces. I also want to grow Favourite Positions into a leading platform for career progression and workplace equity, offering tools, mentorship, and advocacy. My goal is to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, ensuring equitable career access for everyone, regardless of their background.

How do you plan to manage you MBA studies, home-life and job?

Time management and prioritisation are going to be key. I enjoy balancing multiple responsibilities and I plan to structure my time efficiently, leveraging my amazing team at work and maintaining a strong support system. I have created an epic Notion to help me stay on track of what needs to be done for the programme, my personal life and my work. I also think it’s important to schedule regular time with family and friends, so no matter how busy life gets, you don’t end up with all work and no play.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of your academic and professional life?

Beyond my work, I am deeply passionate about advocating for workplace inclusivity, gender equality and social impact initiatives. My podcast and platform, Favourite Positions, allows me to highlight the voices of those pushing for progressive change. I also enjoy exploring new cities, discovering amazing restaurants and fitness. At Imperial, I am eager to engage with entrepreneurship and diversity-focused groups to further these conversations.

Tor Bennett Williams

Nationality: British
Company and role: Occupational Health and Safety Partner at Formula 1
Education: BSc Environmental Sciences at University of Birmingham

Can you share an overview of your professional background?

My background spans from working in the manufacturing and sports industries, having first worked in a large manufacturing FTSE 100 industry, I then moved into the sports sector and played a key role in delivering the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the largest sporting event the United Kingdom had seen since the London 2012 Olympics.

After finishing such an exciting milestone, I had a buzz for the fast-paced industry which led me to the industry I am in now, Formula 1, where as a result of such an exciting and amazing industry the buzz continuously grows each day.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of your academic and professional life?

Outside of my professional and academic background, I’m a vocal advocate for mentorship and community outreach and engagement. To me, the biggest reward is helping others - nothing tops that.

I've led initiatives that connect young people from all backgrounds, helping to build confidence and ambition among our local youth. I am also an England Athletics Athlete Panel member, where I focus my time and effort into community outreach with the aim of wanting to help improve peoples’ welfare with a positive outlook for the future.

What global experience are you looking forward to the most and why?

Imperial’s Global Experience Week will give me the opportunity to understand business behaviours and how companies interact culturally from a completely different perspective than what I experience in the UK. These are the kinds of insights you can’t truly appreciate until you’ve been there and lived it yourself. It’s also a great opportunity to network with people from all MBA cohorts. I’m a strong advocate for practical learning, and the best way to see how the world is changing and figure out where I fit within it is to get out there and experience it firsthand.

Can you share a brief overview of your professional background and the industries you have experience in?

Over the course of my career, I’ve built a strong professional practice in communications, innovation programming and corporate strategy. In Canada, I worked across public affairs and public policy, sport, economic development, research and ocean technology, before joining NATO’s newest organisation, the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), here in London.

DIANA works to accelerate and amplify deep tech start-up companies developing innovative solutions to defence, security and societal problems. As Communications Director, I tell the stories of these fascinating companies while also using strategic communications to shape the story of DIANA itself—from nascent NATO initiative to full-blown innovative scale-up.

What are you hoping to achieve from the Executive MBA?

While I’m excited to learn and expand a wide range of practical skills that will support future operations-focused roles, I’m most excited to grow as a leader. As a woman working in often male-dominated industries, it’s vital to have the confidence in your own experience and training to succeed no matter how loud the room may be. With the Executive Coaching and amazing support from the cohort itself, I will be well-equipped to take on future leadership challenges with confidence in myself, without losing who I am in the process.

I am excited to gain both practical knowledge and theory to apply to my current role, as well as help me pursue a wider range of C-suite positions in innovative companies in the future. I’m particularly keen to focus further on corporate strategy and grand challenges, applying innovation to the most difficult problems our world faces.

Why did you choose to study an Executive MBA at Imperial Business School?

I chose an Executive MBA to expand my ability to drive impact. With experience leading robotics and automation projects from concept to execution, I realised that shaping innovation at scale required expertise in strategy, finance and entrepreneurship.

Beyond gaining new skills, the programme is a catalyst for my transition into roles where I can influence technological adoption—how innovations are funded, positioned, and grown sustainably. What are you most looking forward to about your studies?

I’m also looking forward to the International Residency, ‘Technology and innovation in the US’ . Getting the chance to visit MIT and explore Silicon Valley feels like the 8-year-old me being told that we are heading to the ultimate toy store. These places have been at the heart of groundbreaking technological advancements, and being there will be a chance to experience that energy firsthand, engage with leading innovators, and see how the next big ideas are taking shape. I’m eager to immerse myself in these environments, explore what drives their success, and gain a deeper understanding of how innovation thrives in such ecosystems.

What networking opportunities have you had since starting your programme?

Networking has been central to the Executive MBA experience so far. My cohort made it incredibly easy to connect, readily sharing their own contacts to help peers while fostering insightful discussions and valuable new connections.

Beyond my class, I’ve engaged with ��ý from other MBA formats—Weekend MBA, Full-Time MBA, and Global Online MBA—broadening my perspective and network. MBA Careers Week was particularly impactful, offering meetings with alumni and industry professionals. It included the MBA World Café, a three-hour session with alumni from various industries which provided an opportunity to engage with professionals who have successfully navigated career transitions and hear their first-hand experiences.

These experiences have already expanded my professional circle, and I look forward to many more opportunities ahead.

What is your professional background and what industries do you have experience in?

I began my career in psychology, working in the healthcare sector. I always enjoyed research, audit and report writing along with data analysis and statistical modelling. I did this as part of my work as a psychological therapist.

I transitioned into business having been compelled to create a startup that focussed on fine and rare coffees, exceptional quality produce, sourced globally and imported into the UK. I run a boutique online marketplace for heirloom, premium coffees – a business model of delivering bespoke premium product with next day delivery.

What do you hope to learn on the Executive MBA?

I hope to learn how to deliver real value to organisations, create startups that solve genuine problems and are uniquely propositioned, creating impact for users and the environment. I hope to work collaboratively with cofounders, focusing on sustainable growth and profitability, and leading firms towards IPO’s.

I would like to learn about mergers and acquisitions, nuances of corporate strategy, organisational behaviours and data/AI as a product, whilst building upon skills in corporate sustainability and reporting in time for incoming EU legislative change.

What have you got involved in so far outside of the programme?

Imperial recently held an exclusive winter ball at the Natural History Museum, which was attended by thousands of Imperial ��ý. This was also preceded by a class dinner. Seeing the famous ‘blue whale’ lit up above us as we danced the night away to 70’s hits was one of the most memorable nights of my life.

What is your professional background?

I have built a career in engineering and construction, taking on global projects and senior management roles in buildings and infrastructure, which has been highly rewarding.

These experiences have strengthened my technical expertise and leadership while driving me to deepen my understanding of business organisations and prepare for greater responsibilities—leading me to pursue an Executive MBA at Imperial.

How will the Executive MBA influence your career trajectory?

In just a few weeks, the programme has already exceeded my expectations. Reflecting on some of the diverse topics we have covered in the core modules so far, I have seen growth in my mindset within my current position and responsibilities.

My goal is to develop business acumen and confidently drive high-level conversations and decisions. I also aim to better understand our fast-moving world and tackle global challenges. By embracing new technologies and innovations, I hope to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

How do you balance your MBA studies with your professional responsibilities?

Adjustments definitely need to be made, and I am very grateful to my family and company for helping me make suitable plans to manage my MBA studies.

The programme demands a high level of commitment and is designed to facilitate consistent study and gradual learning. I generally try to plan ahead by reviewing the MBA schedule, which involves managing my time in the evenings after work and on weekends. It is crucial as there are individual and group assignments to deliver, requiring effective time organisation to manage everyone's expectations. While self-motivation is essential, the support from my classmates and study group has been invaluable for sharing our challenges and tips to overcome them.

Finally, I like to stay active to keep my energy levels up and make sure to spend quality time with my friends and family. It really helps me balance all my commitments as best I can!

Why did you choose to study an Executive MBA at Imperial Business School?

I’m starting the Executive MBA during a period of transition in my wider life and career. I’m in the process of relocating with my family to Scandinavia and, as part of this move, I have stepped forward from my role as CEO of a telecommunications provider, and into a position that enables me to focus more of my time and energy on the strategic direction of the company as it enters the next phase of its growth.

What is your professional background?

I am currently a product owner leading the finance technology product ownership, overseeing the development and implementation of FP&A and Business Finance solutions.

Prior to my current role, I held leadership positions in consulting, advising major organisations on finance system architecture, transformation strategies, application development, process optimisation and technology-driven financial solutions. I specialised in bridging the gap between business and technical expertise, leveraging both agile and waterfall methodologies to deliver impactful finance solutions.

Why did you choose to pursue an Executive MBA at Imperial Business School and what do you hope to achieve on the programme?

I have chosen the Executive MBA because of its comprehensive approach. As I want to advance towards a c-suite role within technology, continuous learning is critical for me. The programme looks at how business intersects with technology, which aligns with my career goals and will increase my prospects going forward.

Understand the format options

At Imperial, we ensure that our formats are designed to complement workplace commitments, with learning taking place flexibly around working schedules. These intentional breaks between teaching ensures that ��ý can absorb new learnings, put them into practice at their work and witness the immediate impact of this new knowledge.

Imperial’s Weekend MBA format offers the best of both worlds. It’s regular enough to build momentum, but still manageable for full-time professionals. You will attend classes on-campus one weekend a month and complement that learning with online study.

Our Global Online MBA programme allows you to study fully online from anywhere in the world. You will have access to an online community and the opportunity to visit us at our South Kensington campus and collaborate with classmates twice during the programme.

The Executive MBA will require you to attend Friday and Saturday lectures every 3-4 weeks, with the rest of your learning taking place online. The benefit of part-time learning is that you can immediately apply your learnings from class on a Saturday to your organisation on a Monday, seeing impact in real-time.

Education Quality Manager Rob Sassoon talks quizzing, finding your team, and campus-wide fame.

Since last September, Imperial’s Rob Sassoon has been battling his way through TV’s toughest quiz: Only Connect, the show on which teams of clever folk try to find the link among often baffling clues. As the Teatotallers, he and his teammates have spotted connections between Catchphrase presenters, words ending in German numbers, and the autobiographies of EastEnders stars. They have seen off teams of Pipe-Dreamers, Cookes, Introverts and Crunchers – and come up against a couple of Imperial alumni on the way.

When he’s not spotting missing vowels or choosing between a horned viper and the Eye of Horus, Rob is an education quality manager in the Business School, mainly focusing on programme and module modifications, and programme handbooks.

Ahead of the final, airing on 3 March, Rob sat down with us to talk fame, fortunes and twisted flax.

Rob, congratulations on making it to the final. It was a pretty thrilling semi-final that got you here.

The teams were level going into the Wall [the round in which each team must find connections within a grid of clues]. When the scores were announced afterwards, we realised we were up by three points. It turned out that both teams had had a group of plays in their respective walls, but the other team couldn’t name the author, and they didn’t get the points. Thankfully, my captain is a playwright, so it was very much his area of strength!

And this will be a particularly special final, won’t it?

The final is the 500th episode of Only Connect. I don’t know how they managed that. You’ll see us all wearing 500 badges on our shirts.

What advice would you give if there were someone at Imperial considering applying for the next season of Only Connect?

If you're a fan of the show and you want to apply, absolutely you should go for it. You can either apply as a team of three, or you can apply on your own and they will try and match you up with two other people.

The team that we played in the quarter finals, the Introverts, were a very formidable team who got to the quarter finals having not known each other beforehand.

Any further quizzing plans?

I'd love to do Countdown at some point in the future. The problem I have is that the people who win Countdown are really, really good at Countdown - they learn the dictionary! They've learnt all their letters and letter combinations and what have you. And I just sit at home playing without a pen and paper, and just sort of trying to do it all in my head. I'd love to do it. I'd love to get a teapot, and I have no further expectations

I did Eggheads about 15 years ago. And, like most teams on Eggheads, lost. But I’ve learnt through doing Only Connect that I’m a much better team quizzer than I am an individual quizzer. I don’t have any massive sights on anything like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? or Mastermind.

Most importantly: have you been recognised around campus?

A couple of people have come up to me and I've had a couple of emails from people just saying: “I heard someone from Imperial’s on the show. We're big fans of the show, and I just want to say well done and good luck.” And, I have to say, it's been really nice. You know, I've had a really warm reaction from the Imperial community, and I'm really grateful for all the support I've had throughout my time on Only Connect and going into the final.

At the start of October, we welcomed a new cohort of ��ý onto our BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science programme. The week-long induction was a perfect opportunity to meet their fellow ��ý, get a sneak peek into what the next year of their studies will entail and start to familiarise themselves with the opportunities available to them as an Imperial Business School student.

The Induction Week was also a chance to welcome back our second-year ��ý as they embark on another year of studies with us. This one-of-a-kind degree is designed for analytical thinkers who aspire to be future economists, business leaders and financiers who make a global impact.

Discover Imperial Fair and Welcome Fair highlights

Students attended the ‘Discover Imperial Fair’, at the Queen’s Tower Rooms where they could meet the extensive support services available on campus and learn more about these, such as the Alumni, Library Services and Careers teams.

The Imperial Welcome Fair was yet another noteworthy event that showcased our encouragement of extracurricular involvement. Joining clubs and societies fosters social connections and personal growth. The wide range of options available at the fair allowed ��ý to explore and discover their niche, whether it be in sports, arts, culture, or other areas of interest.

Course kick-off: meeting the Programme staff

During the week, ��ý met their programme staff. The ice breaker activity that followed this meeting not only added a fun and interactive dimension to the ��ý' introduction to their course, but also played a significant role in building rapport among their classmates.

Our new ��ý received a special welcome address from Imperial London President, Professor Hugh Brady, as well as senior leaders from the Business School.

Introducing support services

During the week, there was a Pastoral & Careers support and a Student Life session. Such sessions can be invaluable for ��ý, offering a platform to discuss any concerns, seek advice on academic or career matters, and create a sense of community within the student body.

Nurturing a Sustainable Future: Climate Workshop at Scale Space

On Thursday we welcomed our ��ý to Scale Space, our White City Campus where ��ý participated in a ClimateFresk workshop, designed to immerse themselves in the critical issue of climate change and its profound effects on our planet.

In groups, ��ý delved deep into the causes and far-reaching impacts of this global challenge. This hands-on approach not only allowed ��ý to expand their knowledge but also provided a platform for open group discussion and brainstorming, nurturing a sense of shared responsibility and collective action.

A campus wide scavenger hunt

Throughout the week, ��ý engaged in a campus-wide scavenger hunt to become acquainted with the various campus facilities and resources they will be utilising throughout their academic journey. This entailed deciphering places to discover on campus, followed by capturing a group photograph at each correct location. It was a valuable experience for getting acquainted with the campus and forging connections with fellow ��ý.

Social highlights

From house parties to halls mixers, numerous social activities were scheduled for our ��ý in the evenings, providing opportunities to meet new people and connect with their cohort.

It was fantastic week, welcoming our undergraduate ��ý at the South Kensington Campus. We look forward to seeing the academic achievements, contributions to our community, and the positive impact our new ��ý will have.

At Imperial Business School, we equip our ��ý to engage with business on a global level. The Global Immersion elective on our Masters' programmes offer ��ý the chance to travel across the world to gain first-hand experience of the business dynamics in a different country.

These Global Immersions include visits to various companies representing diverse industry sectors, along with social and cultural activities. They also provides an opportunity for valuable networking opportunities as ��ý travel alongside peers from a range of programmes within the Business School.

This week around 300 of our Masters’ ��ý chose to travel to either the US or Singapore. Each of the five trips taking place focus on a different theme, and range from visits to major investment banks, to exploring how data and advancing technologies function in a real-world corporate setting.

The importance of Global Immersions

By engaging in international experiences, ��ý gain a unique perspective on global business practices and develop a broader understanding of different cultural contexts. They experience first-hand how businesses operate in diverse environments, which fosters adaptability, cross-cultural communication skills, and a global mindset. These qualities are increasingly vital in today's interconnected and globalised business landscape, and this skill set is highly sought after by employers.

Global Digital Applications

Destination: Boston & New York, US
Programmes: MSc Management, MSc International Management, MSc Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management

This module explores how data and artificial intelligence is being applied in real-world corporate settings. Students visited both Harvard and MIT to learn more about their innovation labs and the future of business applications of AI and data. In New York, ��ý met large corporates such as Estée Lauder and JP Morgan to learn how they use AI and data to enhance their businesses.

The Future of Cities

Destination: Singapore
Programmes: MSc Management, MSc International Management, MSc Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management

This module explores Singapore as a Smart City and how local innovations make it unique. Students visited Changi airport to learn why their strategic vision makes it the world's best airport. Other visits included a trip to Volocopter, an electric drone operated helicopter providing novel approaches to transportation.

Corporate Finance for Practitioners

Destination: Singapore
Programmes: MSc Finance, MSc Finance & Accounting, MSc Investment & Wealth Management, MSc Risk Management and Financial Engineering

This is a taught elective which incorporates visits to banks located in Singapore. Student lectures were hosted by the Wealth Management Institute, and we visited major international banks such as Bank of Singapore, HSBC and DBS.

Introduction to Quantitative Investing

Destination: New York, US
Programmes: MSc Finance, MSC Financial Technology, MSc Investment & Wealth Management, MSc Risk Management and Financial Engineering

This is a taught elective which incorporates visits to banks located in New York. Student lectures were hosted by Cornell Tech at their Roosevelt Island campus, and we visited major investment banks such as UBS and Two Sigma, as well as the Deutsche Bank trading floor.
